Do you want to sail a reasonably big yacht but you’re on a low budget? This year you can charter a Sun Odyssey 42.2 with four cabins and two heads from Aegina, our island base.
Although she’s an older boat her engineer owner has kept her in excellent condition. Captain George inspected her last week and was very impressed!
Sun Odyssey yachts are built by Jeanneau, one of the top French yacht builders, known for their technological know-how and craftsmanship.
Our own teaching yacht, Phoebe, is also a Sun Odyssey so we know the quality of the build and equipment. Jeanneau yachts are designed to be simple to sail, highly stable, and comfortable.
The name of the yacht is Astarti – Astarti is the Greek name for the Babylonian goddess of love, war, fertility, and sexuality – so she’s a yacht with a pretty powerful name!
Astarti is easy to handle with a roller furling genoa and roller main sail.
Her equipment includes an electric anchor windlass, cockpit table/ice box, cockpit shower, dinghy with outboard, bimini, wind/depth instruments, GMDSS radio, autopilot, fridge, hot water, radio/CD player with cockpit speakers, and 220v shore power socket.
You could sail Astarti with a light crew, such as a young family, but she sleeps up to 10 people in four cabins and saloon, so she’s also suitable for a larger group who are looking for a lower priced cruising yacht.
Don’t let her age put you off – older boats, like Astarti, often sail better than their modern counterparts as they are heavier. As long as she’s been well maintained, which she has, she’ll be as reliable as a much younger yacht.
She had a powerful new Yanmar 78 HP turbo engine fitted in 2012 and her sails and other items are in good condition. For several years her owner used her purely as a personal recreational boat.
Astarti is available to charter bareboat from 1800 – 2100 euro per week depending on the time of year. This includes linen, towels, and end cleaning. You’ll need to leave a security deposit but this is fully refundable if there are no losses or damage.
If you’d like a skipper to help you for the first day or more, we can supply either an RYA instructor or a competent local skipper. Ask for details.
RYA instruction is possible on Astarti as well. (Restrictions on numbers on board apply when for RYA courses – please contact me for details)
