RYA Navigation & Day Skipper Practical Package

Course information

7 days

Course Description

If you are already a competent crew member, this is a popular combination of courses to take your sailing to the next level.  We now offer an RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate that is valid worldwide, rather than only in non-tidal areas. You no longer need to take an additional course to sail in northern Europe, the USA, or other tidal areas, but the level of theory required is now higher to ensure that you are safe to do so. By then end of those 7 days of theory and practical mix, you will be able to skipper your own boat safely and confidently.

For who?

If you’re planning a flotilla holiday or bareboat charter holiday, this is the course for you. This course is for people who wishes to sail their own boat with their friends and family on board.

You are 16 years old and above and you still need to obtain your Day Skipper Theory.

You want to combine learning in a classroom on our beautiful island, and immediately putting into practice your new skills and enjoy the sun and blue waters.

What will you learn?

There are three elements to this package. When you book, we enrol you in the online RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship course. This is an excellent short course that will introduce you to navigation & chart-work at your own pace. You’ll get a certificate upon successful completion, which normally takes 10 – 12 hours.

The first two days you are taught more theory in our classroom. You can read here more information about the course content. We will focus on bringing you up to speed with everything you’ll need to know on your practical course. At the end of the weekend you will join your yacht for the upcoming course.

The next five days you will be at sea to obtain your Day Skipper Practical certificate. You will cover the skills to skipper confidently a small yacht by day. This intense course covers: navigation, passage planning, practical pilotage, seamanship and boat-handling, including ‘Med’-mooring.

What is included?

We supply you with full course materials, including practice charts and a FREE set of navigation instruments for you to keep. An instructor teaching you all the materials is available for your questions.

Your RYA course book. You will receive a hard copy when arriving in Aegina. If you wishes to order an e-version early on, you can order one on the RYA webshop.

Your RYA Logbook to keep track of all your progress and experiences.

If you succeed: the RYA Day Skipper Practical photo-ID certificate, which can be used to charter a yacht in most areas of the world.

Your own yacht cabin on board (only to share with your partner if applicable) with all the necessary items for your comfort: bedding and linens, towels, pillows.
