Private Sailing Holidays in Greece

Just What You Always Wanted …

Have you always wanted to sail in Greece on a relaxing holiday or maybe learning to sail – but don’t like the idea of sharing a yacht with strangers?

We specialise in private sailing holidays, with or without tuition, for couples, groups of friends, and families.

On a private sailing holiday you don’t have to worry about sharing the accommodation or getting along with people that you don’t know. Your skipper or instructor will be the only other person on board the yacht, as he or she is responsible for the safety of you and the vessel, but they are experienced in intruding as little as possible on your privacy. All the yachts we use for private tuition have more than one ‘heads’ (washrooms)

Some advantages of ‘going private’ …

You can usually have more say as to the route and type of places you want to visit than would be possible on a group sailing trip. Your skipper or instructor will need to ensure that your route is suitable for the weather conditions but you’re not obliged to ‘follow the herd’.

You can start the day at a time that suits you (within reason!) and take your evening meal at whatever time you wish, either joining other crew or choosing to have the whole evening to yourself.

You can choose either a ‘learn to sail’ holiday that includes instruction at a suitable level for you, or a ‘skippered charter’ where you can relax and just join in as little or as much sailing as you choose.

If you want to learn to sail on your holiday, we are recognised to run RYA (Royal Yachting Association) courses and issue internationally accepted certificates. This option is often chosen by couples but you can bring up to five people on a private RYA course. We often have families who choose to learn to sail together.

For couples, a big advantage of private tuition is that you’ll receive far more individual attention than would be possible on a group course. We always make sure students learn as much as they want; we don’t restrict ourselves to the syllabus if there is time to teach beyond it.

Enjoy the social side of sailing

Those who choose a private sailing holiday aren’t necessarily anti-social; often quite the reverse! Although you prefer to be on your own boat during the day, you’ll probably also enjoy being able to socialise with others in the evening. Our yachts often meet up so you can share your experience over a cold drink or meal.

Choose Your Yacht

We have four yachts available for private courses. All are in good condition and fully equipped with modern safety and navigation gear.

4-cabin yacht for families or groups

Helena a lovely 2013 Bavaria 45 Cruiser, is our latest yacht. She is like new and has four cabins plus it’s possible to sleep in the saloon. If you’re coming sailing with children you’ll appreciate the large swim platform at the back of the boat.

Helena is licenced for up to 10 people. We can’t take as many as that on an RYA course but, if you want a sailing holiday with informal tuition, she’s a great boat for a larger party.

Our 3-cabin yachts

We have three yachts suitable for one or two couples or small families:

Challenger has been in private use until 2015 and is in excellent condition, although she is slightly older than the other two.

These yachts are also available for bareboat charter so are ideal if you want to do an RYA course one week and then head off on your own for the following week.

Airport transfers / hotels

To make the whole experience more relaxed we can arrange for an English-speaking taxi driver to meet your incoming flight at the airport and take you to the ferry port  or your hotel in an air-conditioned Mercedes. Just let us know your arrival time and other details and we’ll do everything else.

Want to add a day or more in a hotel at the start or end of your holiday? We can supply a list of nice hotels on Aegina, the pretty island where we are based, or in Athens.

Qualify then Charter

If you have quite a bit of sailing experience but no formal qualifications to charter, our 2-week ”Learn then Charter’ option is for you. During the first week you’ll take an RYA Day Skipper course. Your crew can take a Competent Crew course at the same time. Once you have your certificate you can continue your sailing holiday on your own and you’re free to sail with your family and friends.

Please note that this is for those with previous sailing experience only. You can’t go from beginner to charterer in just one week but we have a 12-day course for beginners that can also be taken as private tuition. Get in touch to find out more.

What does it cost?

The price will depend on a number of factors, including the size of the yacht, how many people will be on board, whether you want a skipper or instructor, and how long you want to sail. This isn’t an option for those who want to sail as cheaply as possible but it could cost far less than you think for a tailor-made sailing adventure.
