Catamaran sailing is becoming increasingly popular in Greece. They are especially suitable for large groups, families with children, or anyone who likes a spacious saloon area.
We’ve been offered the chance to bring a luxury catamaran from the Ionian back to Aegina in late September. We’re planning a one week trip which includes sailing down the Gulf of Corinth and through the famous Corinth Canal, calling at interesting and picturesque places on the way.
This is a great opportunity to experience multihull sailing at a bargain price and to explore a different part of Greece. Read on for more details …
Ouranos is a luxury Bahia 46 with 4 double cabins plus accommodation for skipper and crew. She has a big, comfortable saloon with flatscreen, luxury bed linen and towels, a generator, fully equipped galley, and freezer. You can see her layout below.
We’ll take up to eight people on the trip and you can come either as an active crew member or simply as a passenger. We think that this may appeal to those who have a spouse who is less keen on sailing than they are. On this trip it’s perfectly acceptable to simply relax, sunbathe, swim, read … do whatever you wish.
For those who prefer to join in the sailing, we can offer you the opportunity to take an RYA Competent Crew course or, if you already have an RYA Day Skipper or equivalent, you can be instructed in skippering a catamaran. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the trip and the number of people on board, it will not be possible to take a Day Skipper course during the week.
Ouranos is operated by Cata Sailing and you can see more information about the yacht on their website. A week on board as a skippered charter in September would normally cost 6000€ plus fuel and food.
We are offering this trip on a ‘per cabin’ basis. This means you pay for the cabin and you can either travel solo or bring a friend or partner with you. The price is 1600€ per cabin and includes fuel and food during the day. You will eat ashore most evenings. This price also includes transport from Athens by minibus on the first day so that you can get a return flight to Athens airport.
Your skipper will be a fully qualified RYA Yachtmaster Instructor with loads of experience in multihull sailing. He’ll be happy to teach you the skills you need to handle such a large, elegant yacht.
We’re not providing a hostess for the trip – as with our sailing courses everyone will be expected to take a turn helping with preparing meals and washing up. Most people find this fun and it means we can keep down the price of the trip.
The start date will be Saturday, 24 September. You’ll finish in Aegina on Friday 30 September and you’re welcome to stay on board for the final night.
The start location has not been decided but is likely to be either Lefkas or Preveza. We’re looking into the best way to arrange the one-way transfer from Athens that will be required at the start of the trip.
