Sea Survival

It’ll probably never happen … cruising is one of the safest leisure sporting activities, and 99.9% of those afloat will never use a liferaft. However, if you are part of the unlucky 0.1% your chances of survival will be greatly increased if you understand how to use the equipment and how to help yourself survive in a life-threatening situation.

You’ll draw confidence from having practiced launching and entering your raft and you’ll have a mental bank of survival tips.

This 1-day Sea Survival course is designed for crew on small craft and covers use of life-rafts, flares, and search and rescue techniques. You’ll have the opportunity to test out survival equipment actually in the water so you’ll be better prepared if you ever have to use it in an emergency.

It could be a genuine lifesaver. It’s a proven fact that, in the event of an emergency at sea, people with training are more likely to survive.

An important part of the course is practical training. Experience first hand the problems of entering an uncooperative liferaft and assisting others while fully kitted out in wet weather gear and a lifejacket.

Course topics include:

  • liferafts and the equipment they contain
  • survival techniques
  • the design of lifejackets
  • medical aspects of sea survival
  • search and rescue techniques

This course is also a pre-requisite for those who want to obtain a commercial endorsement to their RYA certificate.
