Eucrante – our third yacht for 2014

This is Eucrante, who joins us as our third training yacht for 2014. Eucrante is perfect for one or two couples and for families who want to learn to sail in the sun.

We’re mainly going to use her for private tuition, although it’s possible we may run one or two group courses on her if we have smaller groups on any particular week.

Our main teaching yachts, that we use for group courses, are fairly big. Philip is 44 ft and Phoebe 45 ft. That makes them roomy and comfortable. On group courses we take up to 5 students plus instructor and so it’s essential to have four cabins and plenty of space on board.

A lot of our students want a private course for themselves and a partner or friend, or for their family. If that’s you, then Eucrante will be perfect for your RYA sailing course and the good news is that she’s also available to charter, either with or without a skipper, so you can take your course and then sail for a second week.

She is an Oceanis 40, so still big enough to be comfortable for a family or group of friends. She has three cabins and two ‘heads’, and the main bathroom has a separate shower cubicle – no more wet floors! She’s a lovely size for a private course for two people. You can have the main cabin and private bathroom while your instructor has his/ her own space.

If you’re a bigger group of close friends, she’s licenced for 8 people and two can sleep comfortably in the saloon. On RYA courses we can’t take more than 5 people but Eucrante is available for private bareboat charter, so once you have passed your RYA Day Skipper Practical course you can hire her to go off and practice your new skills.

Eucrante was built in 2011 so she’s newer than our other boats and still has that ‘new boat’ smell and feel.

As well as all the standard navigation and safety equipment that is compulsory for a commercial charter and teaching boat, she has a number of additional features to add to your enjoyment.

  • digital switch board
  • combined Navtex / DSC radio
  • 220 volt microwave
  • 3D GPS plotter on deck

RYA Courses

If you want instruction on board, there are two options. You can take an all-inclusive course, such as we offer on Phoebe and Philip and prices for this are below.

Alternatively you can simply bareboat charter and pay for an RYA instructor for 6 days. In the second case you’ll pay for fuel, mooring, food etc for yourself and your instructor. Contact me if you are interested in this option.

A 5-day all-inclusive private course for 2-5 people on Eucrante is €4174 / £3554 between June and September, and €3548 / ££3020 for other months. This includes:

  • Accommodation on board the yacht – two cabins for students plus it is possible for two people to sleep in the saloon.
  • All yacht expenses & taxes – fuel, mooring dues, electricity & water, VAT.
  • Tuition from a fully qualified and experienced RYA instructor.
  • RYA course book and RYA photo-ID certificate upon completion of the course (please bring passport-sized photographs).
  • Plenty of fresh food on board for breakfasts & lunches.
  • Freshly laundered linen and towels and good pillows.
  • Loan of breathable, waterproof jackets.

On the first night we arrange a meal at a harbour side taverna at which you can try different local dishes. This is also an opportunity to meet everyone who is sailing that week. The price is 15- 20 euro per head and you should budget for about this amount on the other nights of the course.

What’s Not Included

The price includes everything except getting to us and evening meals. You sail to different places during the course and you will normally eat ashore each evening. Our instructors know the best tavernas to get good food at a reasonable price.

Eucrante is available for charter from 17:00 Saturday to 09:00 the following Saturday with return to base by 19:00 on Friday evening. Being based in Aegina you won’t have to spend the first and last nights of your holiday sailing to/from Athens. If you’re doing an RYA course with us you stay on Eucrante after your course finishes on Friday.

The bareboat charter price for 2014 is €2350 / £2000 per week between June and September and €2234 / £1902 per week for the other months.

This includes linen & towels.

End cleaning of the yacht is €60 payable in cash before departure. You will also need to leave a €2000 refundable security deposit, which can be put on a Visa or Mastercard. This will be returned to you at the end of the charter, less payments for any loss or damage.

You can add a skipper or instructor to the bareboat charter price if you want to cater for yourselves on your course.

You can also take an instructor or skipper for a day or half day’s instruction at the start of the week if you will charter Eucrante yourselves. Your instructor will ensure you are thoroughly familiar with the yacht and her equipment and give you practice in that all-important Med mooring so you feel confident and look good when you come into port at the end of the day.

Contact me for availability of a skipper and prices for the dates you require.
