The Day Skipper Plus course is designed for sailors who already hold an RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate and want to gain more experience and confidence for chartering yachts bareboat. Planning to sail with just two adults or with friends and family who have little experience? This course gives you the skills and knowledge to handle the yacht and crew safely, with minimal assistance.
Over five days, you’ll learn advanced techniques to skipper a charter yacht confidently, plus essential pre-charter know-how – including what to check during yacht handover – ensuring you’re fully prepared for your next sailing adventure.
This course is ideal for sailors who have completed the RYA Day Skipper Practical course and want to gain more experience and confidence. It’s perfect if you’re preparing for your first time as skipper with a small or novice crew, and/or if you’re 16 years or older and ready to build your skills further.
It’s also a great option if your partner is taking a Day Skipper Practical, Competent Crew, or Charter Co-Skipper course and you want to progress in a private setting. Contact us for details and pricing on private tuition.
You will refresh your Day Skipper skills and build on them with:
Advanced mooring and anchoring techniques
Using long lines ashore and handling a Cruising Chute/Spinnaker
Rig tuning and technical yacht knowledge
VHF radio operation (optional exam)
Pre-charter guidance: agreements, insurance, and handover checks
Jury-rigging and short-handed sailing techniques
There is no formal assessment; the focus is on gaining practical experience and confidence for chartering a yacht safely.
Your own cabin on board – only to share with your partner if applicable, complete with bedding, linens, towels, and pillows.
Included expenses: yacht costs, breakfast, and lunch throughout your course.

All prices for practical courses include yacht expenses, breakfast, and lunch. All activities ashore and dinner are at your own expense, and travel costs to reach Aegina are not included.
We offer private versions of all our courses! Depending on the season, the type of boats, and the number of days, from €3700 up to €7950, you can book a yacht for yourself and friends/family to enjoy your time in a more intimate setting while learning the skills you want to complete. Your instructor will always be on board for safety but will respect your space.
