Course Description

Master skippering in the Mediterranean

The RYA Coastal Skipper Practical course is designed for experienced sailors ready to take command and skipper a yacht through coastal passages. If you want to make the Mediterranean Sea your oyster, this is the course for you!

Over several days, you’ll learn to skipper a yacht by day or night anywhere in the Mediterranean, with expert guidance from our highly qualified instructors. You’ll also complete a Yachtmaster qualifying passage of at least 60 nautical miles, gaining the confidence and skills to handle any situation.

But it’s not all work! You’ll sail alongside fellow participants, explore the stunning Greek islands, swim in crystal-clear bays, wander charming streets, enjoy ice cream, and relax on sunny terraces. It’s the perfect blend of advanced sailing training, adventure, and the Greek island lifestyle.

For Who?

If you’re planning on sailing across the Mediterranean Sea and confront stronger weather and waters.

You are 16 years old and above and you have completed your Day Skipper Practical.

You have already experienced many days at sea, including skipper shifts and night hours and. If not yet we recommend you to follow a Day Skipper Course first.

Knowledge about coastal / yachtmaster theory is required.

What will you learn?

The skills to be a competent skipper with good theoretical knowledge and practical applications. This course covers more advanced aspects of sailing: passage planning, pilotage by day and night, advanced boat handling under sail, safety procedures, dealing with high winds and rough water, and how to manage emergency situations.

You’ll get plenty of practice in “Med mooring” and manoeuvring the yacht in tight situations to build your expertise and confidence.

Assessment is based on how well you have performed your practical and navigation tasks during your time on board. No final exam! If your instructor declare that you are competent and safe to take on a yacht out to sea in rougher conditions, you will be complete the course.

What is included?

  • Your own yacht cabin on board (only to share with your partner if applicable) with all the necessary items for your comfort: bedding and linens, towels, pillows.
  • Your RYA course book. You will receive a hard copy when arriving in Aegina.
  • Your RYA Logbook to keep track of all your progress and experiences.
  • If you succeed: the RYA Coastal Skipper photo-ID certificate, which can be used to charter a yacht in most areas of the world.

Private option

We offer private versions of all our courses! Depending on the season, the type of boats, and the number of days, from €3700 up to €7950, you can book a yacht for yourself and friends/family to enjoy your time in a more intimate setting while learning the skills you want to complete. Your instructor will always be on board for safety but will respect your space.
