Day Skipper Plus (Bareboat Charter Skipper’s Course)

This course is for you if you already have an RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate and want to gain more knowledge and experience for chartering yachts bareboat. The course builds on your existing knowledge and gives you additional skills.

This course will equip you to act as skipper on a charter yacht in Greece or elsewhere in the Mediterranean. It will also give you valuable pre-charter information such as what to check on your yacht at handover.

Are you likely to sail with just two adults on board? Or with inexperienced friends or family? If so, you need to feel confident that you can handle the yacht and crew with little assistance. This course will give you the skills you’ll need.

What You’ll Learn

In addition to refreshing your Day Skipper techniques the course will cover:
  • Advanced mooring techniques. Space development in busy harbours
  • Advanced anchoring. Use of long lines ashore in bays
  • Cruising Chute/Spinnaker rigging and deployment and drop
  • Rig tuning and technical knowledge
  • VHF Radio Use (with optional Operator’s course & exam)
  • Pre Boat chartering advise. Agreements, insurance and what to check
  • Milebuilding
  • Knowledge of jury rigging vessels. engine and sail.
  • Navigation. Use of equipment available. Shaping a trip including weather constraints
  • Short handed sailing techniques

What It Costs

From 1150 EUR to 1375 EUR depending on the time of year and whether you are coming alone or with a partner or friend who will share your cabin *. This price includes absolutely everything except getting to us and evening meals, which are taken in local tavernas ashore.

You can also take this as a private option, perhaps while your partner does his/her Day Skipper Practical, Competent Crew or Charter Co-Skipper course. Contact us for details and prices of our private tuition.

On our yachts you’ll get freshly laundered linen & towels, good pillows, and bedding. We can lend you a breathable waterproof jacket if you sail with us out of the main summer months.

* we never expect you to share a cabin with someone you don’t know – or to sleep in the saloon! You’ll get a proper cabin.
