RYA Day Skipper Practical is a course for those who are ready for more responsibility. It gives you the skills to skipper your own boat safely and confidently on tidal and non – tidal waters. With tuition from our highly qualified Instructors, this course has long been one of our most popular. In five days we’ll teach you the skills to skipper a cruising yacht. Although this is a more demanding course than Competent Crew, we’ll make time for swimming, sunbathing, and a few good bottles of wine along the way.
We also offer a 7-day version of this course almost every week! This is a perfect option for the students who do not have the required theoretical knowledge yet. Combined with an online preparation to do before your course, you will receive tuition on the water for 7 full days, which allows you to spend more time on theory and apply your knowledge right away for a more hands-on experience. If you’re planning a flotilla holiday or bareboat charter holiday, this is the course for you. This course is for people who wishes to sail their own boat with their friends and family on board.
You are 16 years old and above and you have obtained your Day Skipper Theory (otherwise you can look into our 7-day courses).
You have already experienced five days at sea, including 100 miles and 4 night hours. If not yet we recommend you to follow a Competent Crew Course first.
The skills to skipper confidently a small yacht by day. This intense course covers: navigation, passage planning, practical pilotage, seamanship and boat-handling, including ‘Med’-mooring.
Assessment is based on how well you have performed your practical and navigation tasks during your time on board. No final exam! If your instructor declare that you are competent and safe to take a small yacht out to sea in calm conditions, you will be complete the course.
You may also be eligible to convert your certificate to an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) depending on your citizenship and residency.
Your own yacht cabin on board (only to share with your partner if applicable) with all the necessary items for your comfort: bedding and linens, towels, pillows.
Your RYA course book. You will receive a hard copy when arriving in Aegina. If you wishes to order an e-version early on, you can order one on the RYA webshop.
Your RYA Logbook to keep track of all your progress and experiences.
If you succeed: the RYA Day Skipper Practical photo-ID certificate, which can be used to charter a yacht in most areas of the world.

All prices for practical courses include all yachts expenses, breakfast and lunch. All activities ashore and dinner are at your own expense. Your travel expenses to get to Aegina are not covered.
You desire more privacy? We offer private versions of all our courses! Depending on the season, the type of boats, and the number of days, from €3,700 up to €7,950, you can book a yacht for yourself and friends/family to enjoy your time in a more intimate setting while learning the skills you want to complete. A qualified instructor will stay on board at all time to ensure safety but our team is used to not disturb your privacy. You can contact us and ask for more info and/or select “private” when enquiring a course.
